Home Performance no.33
WHAT: “Collective Commission” is a collective performance that deals with the notion of ‘collectivism’ and supports the common behaviour/action within the public awareness. It also grounds on the idea that the art is becoming a consumption and production material by virtue of the order that comes from the public. In her performance, Özlem Ünlü questions how we could create a common space within the current daily rhythm of our life including the individual flows, now that we have turned back to our inner universe. “Collective Commission” comes to life with the transmission of images and components requested by the viewers -participating in the live broadcast- onto the blank canvas placed in the artist’s workshop.
The curiosity of collective painting is fictionalized through the societal dialogues in “Collective Commission” by having a live conversation with the participants in 15 minute time slots. Through the expressions and desires of the contributors, the artist will create a collective production and story on a common space for an hour each day and three times a week till the end of the quarantine.
